Chapter Ten
X-n
I had no right to touch her.
But she did not stop me. Stars help me, she did not turn away and now the craving to touch her skin is stronger than ever.
My fingertips spark with pleasurable tingles from trailing her features, her beautiful face. Soft sounds come from behind the curtainâher quiet breathing, little ripples of the water. Iâve never seen a human female naked, but my mind gives me plenty of imagination. Iâve seen enough fully clothed to get a good idea of whatâs underneath. Her mammersâbreastsâwill fit perfectly in my hands. As will her hips and the curve of her thighs.
My pants grow uncomfortably tight in the groin.
Turning away from the curtain, I take dehydrated meat from my pack along with bars of compressed fruit and seeds. I only have a small amount of emergency rations after sharing some with Aleedie and the pup for their trip, along with a pouch of zes tea that I keep in my pack. Finding two cups, I fill them with water from my canister. Normally, I would boil the water to steep the tea, but I canât risk even a small flame. The heat signature would be immediately detectable to any enemy in the area with scanning capabilities. I spoon a heaping mound of tea into each mug and give them a stir. The leaves will steep even in the cool fluid and provide calm and healing properties to our bodies.
âX-n?â
Her quiet voice pulls my attention. âYes?â
âIs there extra fabric I can use to dry off?â
The water drains from the tub and I imagine her standing, naked, covering her breasts with her arms as the cool air assaults her bare skin. She can step into my embrace and I will warm her, everywhere...
âIâyes, I think so.â
I look around, then pull a square of fabric from the bed. It will have to do. Holding it around the curtain, I shiver as her fingers brush mine as she takes it. A displeased puff comes from her lips.
âWhat is wrong?â
âI canât wrap it around me. I wanted to rinse my clothes and I need something to wear while they dry.â
Iâm about to tell her she needs to wear nothing, but I bite my tongue and hand her the tunic that I took out from my bag for her.
âOh, thank you.â
Saâsat comes out a moment later, pulling her hair behind her and twisting it into a braid. My tunic falls well below her knees. I canât help but stare at her. Without her mask, she is like a different person. Her hair is lush and thick, and even though sheâs trapped it, soft pieces fall around her face in bouncy curls. My tunic hangs over her, but sheâs full enough that her womanly figure rounds out the fabric over her chest and hips.
She notices me staring and quickly touches her face, as if remembering sheâs not wearing the damnable mask. Her fingers press against her cheek as if feeling it for the first time.
âI hate that mask.
